Welcome to my Steam Greenlight Spotlight, the place where each week I throw the spotlight on a game currently in the Steam Greenlight process that I think looks good.
In the spotlight this week is… Poly Towns
What is Poly Towns?
Poly Towns is a town builder by Red Phoenix Studios with a nice bright colourful cartoon-esque art style, and since I love town/city builders (and because this one looks good) it of course has to make it onto my Steam Greenlight Spotlight.
However Poly Towns has a little something that makes it stand out or in the word of the dev’s on their greenlight page, makes it a “unique little town builder”. The world is divided into “zones” that you expand into as you go from a small town into a larger one as you collect resources, build and upgrade buildings etc.
The gameplay is pretty simple, build houses and resource buildings, upgrade them, and expand into new zones. I can go with that. By and large that is how a simple town builder should work. It’s this expanding into new zones, along with its nice bright colourful art style which I really really like, that make it standout from the crowd somewhat.
The information in-game, so things like tax, building upkeep, food consumption etc get updated every 10 seconds which should hopefully make planning ahead straightforward.
But best of all you can lose! If the happiness of your people gets to 0%, game over. They probably overthrow you and install a better leader or at least one that makes them happy, maybe they do a weekly comedy show. Run out of money and have a negative income? Guess what, game over (also consider a career in politics, you’d fit right in).
I like town/city builders, this one is nice and bright with lots of colour, looks pretty simple which is nice when you want a nice relaxing game to play, has its own little twist, but still has a chance of failure. What more could you want from a simple town builder game?
The release date is early 2016, so hopefully not too long.
